A representative of the Gender Ideology camp responded with snark, straight up:
Rowling replied by posting without comment a relatively current survey of British public opinion about “transgender rights,” almost all of which TRA talking points are marked as “Majority Disagree,” i.e., “the whole world” if anything seems to reject the claims of those who insist a thinking person (TM) must never “conflate” sex and gender.
Her implicit message to the TRAs and Gender Ideologues? The facts are now well known, the charade is now over, and “transgender women” are hereafter best described as “trans-identifying men.”
Three quick points after the jump:
(1) Change in Audience: Rowling is no longer addressing the thoughtful person on the fence between Gender Critical feminism and Gender Identity zealots. She’s speaking directly and without restraint to the TRAs who continue to insist that the talking points of 2015-2022 are still the high bar standard of understanding with respect to gender dysphoria and “transgenderism.”
(2) Change in Rhetoric: Rowling was on defense for several years at the height of the Trans Hysteria and the depths of the attempts to cancel her. She has been on offense for almost two years now, unapologetic as the studies pile up that shred the trans-identifying assertions. Here, though, we see Rowling boldly entering the enemy camp and calling out their nonsense in brutal even coarse language and fearlessly revealing the TRA Emperor’s defenders are wearing no logical clothes.
(3) Change in Readers’ Responses: Rowling’s tweets a year and a half ago were followed inevitably by bilious assaults in the comment threads on her intelligence, ethics, and supposed bigotry and “phobias.” There is almost none of that now, which means either that she has won over a large part of those in the Trans camp, those who despise her have retreated from her twitter space to more sympathetic bubbles online (replaced by Gender Critical partisans), or both.
Big changes, all around; I think we can file this as Rowling’s ‘State of the Conflict’ address to her more than 14 million followers — and that the report is that the enemy is in retreat and must not be allowed to regroup or find safe havens. “Riddikulus!”seems to be her operative spell today.
