
China’s retail sales of consumer goods rose 6.4 per cent year on year in May 2025 to 4,132.6 billion yuan (~$575.65 billion), with urban and rural areas growing 6.5 and 5.4 per cent, respectively.
From January to May, sales totalled 20,317.1 billion yuan, up 5 per cent.
Online retail surged 8.5 per cent, with physical goods contributing 24.5 per cent of total sales, according to NBS data.
