Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, a smartphone that redefines slimness and portability in the flagship category.
Measuring just 5.8mm in thickness and weighing 163 grams, it’s the thinnest phone ever released by the South Korean tech giant. It is a strategic release that comes months after the rest of the S25 lineup.
This move signals Samsung’s intent to maintain market momentum amid intensifying global competition and macroeconomic uncertainty.
Pricing, Availability & Market Rollout
The Galaxy S25 Edge will hit shelves in South Korea on May 23 and the United States on May 30, with launches in 30 more countries, including China and Europe, scheduled soon after. It is priced at $1,099, making it $100 more expensive than the Galaxy S25+ and $200 less than the Ultra model.
In Pakistan, the launch is expected by early June. While Samsung has not confirmed the local price, estimates suggest a range between Rs325,000 and Rs345,000, depending on taxes and import duties.
Slim by Design
This device stands out with its 6.7-inch display, titanium frame, and dual-camera system, blending performance with aesthetics. Despite being thinner and lighter, it maintains a 12GB RAM setup and offers 256GB and 512GB storage options.
Blake Gaiser, Samsung’s head of smartphone product management for the Americas, emphasized the weight reduction:
“The amount of weight we’ve pulled out of this device and the slimness of this device is just dramatic.”
“They’ve really been looking for something that would just disappear in their pocket.”
However, to achieve this sleek design, Samsung sacrificed some features found in the S25 Ultra, such as a 1TB storage variant, S Pen support, and a telephoto lens for optical zoom.
AI at the Core
The Galaxy S25 Edge is equipped with Samsung’s latest AI technology. From multimodal AI that processes input through camera, voice, and visuals, the device offers enhanced usability. It also features smart battery management to improve longevity.
Samsung Executive VP Moon Sung-hoon noted:
“We managed to engineer a thinner vapour chamber… We’re confident the S25 Edge can be used without concerns about overheating.”
The battery, rated at 3,900mAh, is slightly smaller than its siblings but enhanced with AI-based optimization to ensure all-day usage.
Is Samsung Trying to Beat Apple to the Punch?
Samsung’s move is widely seen as a strategic play to beat Apple to the punch. Industry insiders believe the timing is no coincidence, as Apple is reportedly preparing a thinner iPhone 17 Air.
“It is hard to believe this is not a pre-emptive strike,” said Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight.
He added,
“For the second half of 2025, ‘thin is most definitely in’. Samsung is first out the gate.”
Design Experience
Interestingly, Samsung plans to ditch traditional security tethers in retail stores for the S25 Edge. Instead, it will use “security adhesive”, allowing customers to test the phone’s ergonomics and pocket feel. It is an innovative retail approach to match the product’s standout design.
The early release of this model, unusually soon after January’s S25 series launch, is an effort to sustain sales amid seasonal slowdowns and shifting global tariff policies.
Despite challenges in its semiconductor division, Samsung reported strong Q1 earnings, largely driven by the S25 series’ success. Analysts believe the S25 Edge could help bridge the gap until foldables arrive later this year.
