CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, recently hosted a clinical knowledge exchange with Australian orthopaedic surgeon Dr Josh Petterwood with the aim of advancing patient-centric orthopaedic care through the expansion of its robotic joint replacement programme.
Dr Petterwood, a specialist from Hobart, Australia, is internationally recognised for his work in robotic-assisted hip and knee surgeries. During his visit, he engaged with the hospital’s orthopaedic team, led by Dr Debashish Chanda, through case-based discussions and live surgical observations. The session facilitated a two-way exchange of insights on surgical techniques, planning, and recovery protocols.
Joint-related problems are rising sharply in India due to factors such as ageing, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, sports injuries, and poor posture. These challenges underscore the need for advanced, technology-driven interventions that enhance surgical precision, reduce complications, and support faster recovery.
Dr Debashish Chanda, Director, Orthopaedics, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, said, “Robotics in orthopaedics is transforming the way we approach joint replacements. India is witnessing a significant surge in joint issues due to factors such as ageing, sedentary lifestyles, sports injuries, obesity, and poor posture. These challenges call for innovative, technology-driven solutions that not only restore mobility but also minimise complications and enable quicker rehabilitation.”
