The Government of Maharashtra has announced the opening of the 60th dialysis centre under its Mahadialysis programme at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Dharni, located in Amravati district. The centre is part of a broader state initiative aimed at delivering free dialysis services to all residents of Maharashtra, with a focus on increasing healthcare access in rural and underserved areas.
The Dharni facility is operated by the government in collaboration with HLL Lifecare, a Mini Ratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is staffed with a centre-in-charge, dialysis technicians, nurses, and housekeeping personnel. A medical officer at the hospital is responsible for overseeing the operations of the unit and offers consultations to patients as required. In addition, patients in Amravati district can access nephrologists appointed under the Mahadialysis programme.
Launched in September 2024, the Mahadialysis programme allows patients to receive dialysis free of cost. To avail services, patients must register at their respective centres as per established protocols. Online booking is available through a dedicated website and mobile application, aiming to increase convenience and improve scheduling.
As of 30 June 2025, a total of 632 patients are being treated under the programme, with 22,075 dialysis sessions completed statewide. The government’s target is to set up 433 dialysis centres across Maharashtra, which will include 333 in Rural Hospitals, 78 in Sub-District Hospitals, 15 in Women’s Hospitals, 2 in General Hospitals, and 5 in District Hospitals. A total of 2,527 dialysis machines are planned for deployment across these centres.
