P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre entered into a strategic services agreement with King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation in April 2024 to deliver training in clinical and non-clinical courses for doctors and nurses, research capacity building and executive education to health professionals in India and the UK. The inaugural academic initiative of this collaboration was launched on May 16th, 2025 —a tailored Clinical Nursing Leadership programme aimed at empowering senior nursing professionals in India.
The 12-week course, titled “Clinical Nursing Leadership,” is being conducted by the esteemed faculty of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King’s College London. Structured as a hybrid programme, it combines online and in-person instruction and follows a synchronous, activity-based teaching methodology designed to engage and elevate experienced nursing leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Khanna, CEO, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, said, “We believe that leadership in nursing is crucial for transforming healthcare delivery, improving patient outcomes, and fostering innovation. By integrating the world-class expertise of King’s College London’s faculty, we are ensuring that our nursing leaders are equipped with the latest knowledge, critical thinking skills, and a global perspective that will help them lead confidently in complex healthcare environments. This program marks the beginning of a sustained effort to elevate nursing education in India, and ultimately, to create a ripple effect that benefits communities at large.”
A cohort of qualified nurses currently serving in senior leadership roles at P. D. Hinduja Hospital have enrolled in this inaugural batch. The curriculum is designed to enhance clinical acumen and to cultivate the strategic thinking and leadership competencies required to manage modern healthcare environments.
The teaching faculty for this program includes renowned educators and practitioners from King’s College London with deep expertise in clinical nursing, adult care, mental health, and pedagogy. The collaborative design of the program underscores a shared commitment to international excellence in nursing education.
Dr Phalakshi Manjrekar, Director of Nursing, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, added, “Nurses are essential drivers of healthcare quality and safety, and by investing in their leadership development, we are investing in the future resilience of our health systems. As these senior nurses complete the programme and move forward in their careers, we anticipate significant positive impacts on patient care, team dynamics, and organisational performance.”
Dr Julia Philippou, Vice Dean International, Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King’s College London said, “Our collaboration with P.D. Hinduja Hospital is based on our shared commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning, and it is these principles on which this forward-thinking nursing program has been built upon. This initiative goes beyond leadership development – it equips senior nursing professionals with the advanced knowledge, skills, and global perspective needed to lead, influence, and elevate nursing practice. As the world’s top-ranked nursing faculty, King’s remains dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare through high-quality, transnational education that empowers nurses to make a lasting impact across borders.”
This initiative also stands as a tribute to the late Srichand P. Hinduja, former Chairman of the Hinduja Group, whose vision and philanthropic spirit continue to inspire the Foundation’s commitment to education, healthcare, and social development. His death anniversary is commemorated on May 17.
This partnership aims to initiate a series of collaborative initiatives planned to help address healthcare challenges faced by the two countries. Some of the other activities planned include research and capacity building, using technological and digital advances to develop effective healthcare solutions, scholarships for students in India in biomedical and imaging sciences, etc.
