USV has launched a new initiative titled ‘United for BP Control’ in partnership with the World Hypertension League (WHL) and the Indian Society of Hypertension, aiming to address the growing burden of hypertension in India. The initiative was inaugurated during the 6th World Hypertension Congress held in Chennai.
According to recent estimates, over 315 million Indians are currently affected by hypertension. Despite its prevalence, the condition remains under-addressed due to low awareness, poor adherence to treatment, and limited patient education. The ‘United for BP Control’ initiative seeks to address these challenges through a structured three-pillar approach.
The awareness component of the programme will involve expert-led content dissemination across print, television, digital, and social media platforms to ensure accurate information about hypertension reaches the public.
For screening, the initiative plans to conduct more than 25,000 blood pressure and ECG camps. These camps will include cardiovascular risk assessments and aim to reach over 2.5 lakh patients.
As part of the management strategy, the initiative introduces specially designed patient education strips. These strips are based on feedback from over 1,500 doctors and 200 patients. The strips are intended to reinforce key behavioural changes, including healthy eating, daily physical activity, and timely medication adherence.
Dr S. N. Narasingan, Past President of the World Hypertension League and a hypertension expert from Chennai, said, “This is a thoughtful initiative by USV. The unique strip they conceptualised and designed, offers hypertension patients a reminder to stay on track with their medication, embrace healthier habits, and can make a difference in managing blood pressure.”
Dr Anuj Maheshwari, Secretary General of the Indian Society of Hypertension, commented on the effort, stating, “The United for BP Control initiative is a commendable step towards reducing the burden of hypertension in India. With the introduction of uniquely designed strips, patients will now have a daily reminder to take their medication and adopt a healthier lifestyle.”
USV, an Indian multinational healthcare company, has stated that the initiative is part of its broader aim to improve how hypertension is understood, diagnosed, and managed in India.
Prashant Tewari, Managing Director of USV, said, “With ‘United for BP Control,’ USV is taking a decisive step to tackle India’s escalating hypertension burden and enable sustained blood pressure management across the nation. This initiative reflects our deep commitment to improving patient care and empowering individuals to lead healthier, longer lives.”
