SNL‘s viral Domingo sketch has finally come full circle, with “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter joining in on the train wreck that is newlyweds Matt (Andrew Dismukes) and Kelsey (Chloe Fineman)’s relationship.
In the eight-minute skit during SNL‘s 50th anniversary special, Carpenter appears as Sophie, the bride’s childhood best friend who couldn’t make it to the original wedding because had been in prison at the time. Fortunately for her, the couple are doing a vow renewal — despite the fact that they’ve been married less than a year and had some incredibly public infidelity issues.
To her credit, Kelsey’s friends (Carpenter, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman) do start by recounting her newfound commitment to monogamy, enthusiastically displaying their discordant vocals in a parody of Wicked‘s “Defying Gravity.” Unfortunately, Kelsey’s resolution dissolves almost immediately, with the idea of an open relationship being floated via a spoof of Taylor Swift‘s “You Belong With Me.” It seems she just can’t get Domingo (Marcello Hernández) out of her mind.
Kelsey and Domingo aren’t the only ones out for some fun, though. This time Matt’s groomsmen (Andy Samberg, Bowen Yang, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett) also took up the microphones to perform their own rendition of “Espresso,” bringing SNL‘s Domingo Cinematic Universe back to its roots.
